Review: Fruits Basket

Fruits Basket has been around for a very long time. I’m sure you all know of it, or have atleast heard of it.

The Anime revolves around an orphaned schoolgirl named Tohru Honda. Tohru gets invited (after a series of events) to live with the school’s pretty-boy, Yuki, and his cousin, Shigure. Later on (episode 2) we’re introduced to another of Yuki’s cousins, Kyo, who also happens to be staying with Yuki and Shigure. (Kyo is a personal favorite).

As the story goes on, we’re introduced to a variety of characters, Tohru’s two best friends, and Yuki/Kyo’s family, the Sohma. The Sohma family happens to have a curse, however, that Tohru learns about the hard way: if any Cursed Sohma is embraced by the opposite gender, they transform into an animal of the Chinese Zodiac.

Everyday is exciting, with new characters always being introduced, character progression, some romance for the ladies and Kyo’s bad-ass attitude that keeps everyone wanting more.

A bit about the characters:

Tohru is a 16yr old schoolgirl who lost her mother when she was younger. She tries to keep a happy, positive attitude towards everything, and tries to see the good in everyone.

Yuki – the pretty boy, is often the calm one. He eventually gets dressed up as a girl, which is pretty sick xD as it looks pretty good on him lol. Yuki *SPOILER* eventually begins to develop feelings for Tohru, however….

Kyo, the bad-ass of the Anime, is awesome. He loves fighting (however he’s never beaten Yuki in a fight before), and happens to have the saddest past of any character in an Anime I’ve seen. He’s so defensive, angry, but also very protective of Tohru as well, as Yuki isn’t the only one with affections for Tohru.

Shigure is the older, wiser of the 3 cousins. Quite a pervert (<3) but also very serious when he needs to be.

Fruits Basket is a very good Anime, it has some incredibly dark, cruel scenes, but it’s also very romance-y, and has plenty of comedy.

Animation: 7/10
The Animation is a bit better then average, just because Kyo looks so good in it. =p Otherwise, I’d have given it a 5-6.

Story: 8/10
The plot in Fruits Basket is very gripping. It doesn’t end, however, and only continues in the Manga, which is why it didn’t get a 9/10.

Music: 7/10
The music was good, nothing special, but still.

Overall: 7.3/10

The Good:
Great story, amazing characters, awesome character development

The Bad:
The story just cuts off – and you have to continue reading the Manga
